#TeamLucifer is the twelfth episode of the first season of Lucifer. It aired on April 18, 2016.
Summary[]
When a woman is found dead in a pentagram, the words "Hail Lucifer" carved into her back - the investigation leads Lucifer and Chloe into the world of Satanists where things do not always appear as they seem.
Plot[]
The episode begins as a young woman appears to be in the middle of a Satanic ritual. She is stabbed, but it turns out to be just a performance, and all fake. However, a man stabs her with a real knife and claims to do this for the "real Lucifer".
At the penthouse, Maze is busy throwing a selection of knives at Lucifer, who is trying to find out what makes him vulnerable. Maze points out that he knows what makes him vulnerable - "Chloe Decker is the one I should be throwing knives at" - as if he really thought she could hurt him with knives he wouldn't let her throw it. To prove the point, she throws a demon dagger, and he catches it, and tells her that demon daggers forged in Hell don't count.
Lucifer then tells her she should send Amenadiel back to Heaven - forcibly if necessary, and holds up the demon blade. He then stubs his toe on a step made out of Italian marble and claims that he has discovered something else that can hurt him, just as Chloe arrives.
Chloe asks Lucifer why he has been avoiding her for three weeks, and his help on a case that she "can't solve" without him. He perks up, pleased that she needs him, and goes along with her.
Rose's body at the theatre, with "Hail Lucifer" carved on her back.
With the knowledge that Chloe is the reason for his mortality, Lucifer keeps a five feet distance from Chloe, much to her annoyance as the pair walk to the crime scene. They bump into the street preacher from "Stay Lucifer. Good Devil", who Lucifer showed his Devil face to. He recognizes Lucifer when he and Chloe pass his group outside the theatre where the victim has been found. He cries that "evil is here" when he spies Lucifer.
Rose Davis is identified as the victim and her body is placed in a pentagram on the stage of the theatre. On her back the words - "Hail Lucifer" - are carved, as well as subdermal implants be found in her arm. Lucifer is appalled that such a thing is being blamed on him, and calls Satanists "misguided cult nobheads with Frisbees in their earlobes." The preacher from before then breaks through the cordon and throws accusations at Lucifer before Malcolm has him thrown out of the crime scene. Upon meeting Malcolm for the second time, the two banter and Lucifer remarks that Malcolm has a "porn stache". Chloe asks if they have met and Malcolm says they have not, but simply has heard a lot about Lucifer - "all bad, of course."
Chloe and Lucifer head out to the victim's home to see her father. Lucifer, still concerned about Chloe's ability to make him vulnerable, drives himself there and tells Chloe he will meet her there, rather than being driven there by her. Rose's father is confused and lost as he had no idea his daughter was Satanist. In the house, Chloe spots a hidden door, which opens into a "creepy, secret evil room" where they find an apparent sacrificial offering. Rose's father is shocked and says, "This is crazy. I mean, even if she was into this stupid Devil thing, she wouldn't have sacrificed herself." Growing ever more suspicious of Chloe and her ability to make him mortal, Lucifer comments that, "Yes, but sometimes the people closest to you can turn on you." He then looks to Chloe sternly, and asks, "Wouldn't you agree, Detective?" A confused Chloe replies, "Maybe." The father then regretfully adds that, "I should've reached out. Called more. I thought I knew her." Lucifer replies that he knows exactly how the father is feeling as he eyes Chloe again. Chloe then finds the book used by the Church of the Dark Prince dedicated to somebody referred as Corazon by Rose.
Meanwhile, Malcolm is accosted by Amenadiel, who shoves him up against the wall. However, Malcolm is unfazed at Amenadiel's threats, and informs him that Lucifer "spilled the beans". Malcolm tells Amenadiel that he knows an angel can't kill a mortal, and shows him the pentecostal coin he got from Lucifer. Malcolm then tells Amenadiel that unless he's got a better deal, he's now "hashtag Team Lucifer".
Back at the precinct, Lucifer sits on a table far away from Chloe as she tries to arrange the subdermal implants removed from the victim's arm to form a phrase for a lead. She tells Lucifer that she can not make sense of it and suggests "I hurl ficiis". She then asks Lucifer to come over, and Lucifer walks around her as he looks at the subdermal implants at the back of her office space, confusing Chloe with his antics of why he won't get near her.
Upon taking a quick look, Lucifer immediately recognizes that they spell out Filii Hircus - Children of the Goat in Latin - and is annoyed at why people always associate him with goats. A web search using the phrase finds a website for Church of the Dark Prince, and Filii Hircus used as a password, reveals a meeting place and time. Lucifer heads out on his own again, and meets Chloe there.
Upon Chloe arriving, she confronts Lucifer about his antics. "Okay. That's it. You're being a freak. You've been avoiding me for weeks, you won't get in my car. What's your problem?... Wait, is this about that vulnerability thing?" Lucifer, referring to the literal vulnerability of mortality, confirms her suspicions. Chloe, interpreting it as the figurative vulnerability of his feeling, complains, "I mean... I get the teesiest bit touchy-feely with you and you freak out. Ugh. All I meant that night is that I can trust you. That's all. Okay?" The two then knock at the door of the meeting location, and a Satanist opens the door. Chloe whispers "Fili Hircus", but the man informs them the meeting that day is private. However, Lucifer scares him away with his Devil eyes, and the pair enters the building.
They are bemused by the ceremony taking place inside. Lucifer and Chloe witnesses the Church's memorial for Rose, which Lucifer termed quite civilized. But when they went a man pretending to be goat-headed Lucifer walks in, he interrupts, "I mean, you preach rebellion, but you're misguided sheep. And Goat. Where's the real defiance? The free will?... Someone killed this girl! She didn't deserve that. That is not what I stand for. Is that what you all wanted? Eh? Should be ashamed of yourselves." Mitch Watson, or Onyx, the high priest of the Church is then questioned by Chloe which further points them to the Corazon lead, who turns out to be Rose's boyfriend.
As they wait for Onyx to retrieve some details on Corazon. Chloe and Lucifer looks at the paintings on the wall depicting the Devil. Chloe says she understands why Lucifer chose the Devil "persona" as she observes the painting, "All-powerfull... Invincible... Or it's because you think that everybody's out to get you." Lucifer comments that, "That's because they are... Well, one angel can hurt another, so..." He stops himself as he alarmingly looks at Chloe, and moves his hand to her back to check for wings.
Lucifer checks Chloe's back for scars of wings, but finds nothing.
That same evening, Maze is seen meeting up to hookup with Amenadiel, who is upset about how things have turned out with Malcolm. Maze comforts him, and tries convincing him that maybe he should go home. Amenadiel refuses, and says he cannot face God if he has failed to bring Lucifer back to Hell.
Meanwhile, Lucifer is at Chloe's place upon realizing she might be an angel, Chloe remarks that, "I can't get near you, now I can't get rid of you. Whatever." Chloe goes upstairs to shower, and she orders him not to wake Trixie while she does. He immediately then wakes Trixie up to ask her about any possible signs of scars or indications of wings on Chloe's back. Trixie demands cash for information, Lucifer complies, and Trixie tells him about a scar on Chloe when she was bite by a Kraken. Lucifer asks for more information about the Kraken just when Chloe returns downstairs, who forgot her phone. She tells him that the Kraken was her mother's chihuahua. Chloe then sends Trixie back to bed and tries to ask Lucifer what is wrong, "All right, seriously. No more freaky beahvior. If this is about the other night, I'm sorry, okay?" Lucifer dismisses her concerns, and instead asks her to take her shirt off, asking to see her back so he can confirm whether she is "an angel sent to destroy" him. A very confused Chloe turns around, lifts her sweater up, only for Lucifer to find nothing. She tells him not everyone is out to get him, and is interrupted when she is informed that the police has found Corazon's - whose legal name is revealed as Mike Carey - car parked at an warehouse.
Large anamorphic print at the crime scene, which spells out "Morningstar".
Chloe and Lucifer arrive on scene to find Dan and Malcolm. The quartet then find Corazon's body hanging from the rafters in the warehouse. Red paint around the boxes in warehouse turn out to be a large anamorphic print reading "Morningstar". Dan suggests that this appears to be a message especially for Lucifer, expresses his concerns of a conflict of interest, and requests Chloe to boot Lucifer off the case. Lucifer becomes angry at the idea anyone would think he was involved.
However, Chloe sends him home. Irritated, he heads to Linda's office, and complains "How could she even think I'm capable?... I thought she knew me. I thought I knew her." Linda again, works within what she thinks is Lucifer's metaphor, and suggets vulnerability is good thing. She asks why he doesn't stay away from Chloe, and he confesses he "doesn't want to."
Elsewhere, Maze is seen in bed with Amenadiel. She pulls a dagger out to send him back to Heaven but hesitates. Amenadiel then wakes up, stopping her. Hurt and betrayed, he flies off.
Lucifer is then seen walking down the street, and has a clash with the preacher outside Lux, which is all caught on video. The preacher is seen taking a swing at Lucifer, but Lucifer takes him by the neck and begins to choke him. Malcolm then arrives, breaking Lucifer off from the scuffle, and the two go up to the penthouse.
The same red paint on the warehouse is seen on Malcolm's hand as he tries to high-five Lucifer.
Back at the crime scene of Corazon. Chloe spots a cuff link in what looks to be the letter M, which Dan theorizes could stand for Morningstar. The two then make their way back to the precinct, where Chloe is alerted by colleague that her partner is on the news. They watch as the news reports that, "Local club owner Lucifer Morningstar attacked Reverend Jacob Williams when Williams claimed the businessman with the devilish name was actually involved in the Satanic murders making recent headlines." As they watch, Chloe pauses the TV, and spots the cuff link Jacob is wearing - it's a match for the one they found. The two deduce that the cuff link was not an M for Morningstar, but a W for Williams.
As Malcolm tries to chat and banter with Lucifer up in the penthouse, which is unreciprocated by Lucifer. Lucifer notices red paint on Malcolm's hands and realizes that it was Malcolm who set up the scenes of the Satanic killings. Malcolm is delighted to be outed and asks if Lucifer is proud of his work, attempting to please him. Malcolm then assures Lucifer that he has the perfect fall guy - Jacob Williams, the preacher. Lucifer is horrified and furious, "Why would I be happy? I'm not evil. I punish evil." Lucifer moves to attack Malcolm as Chloe isn't around, making him invincible.
Lucifer is surrounded by L.A.P.D. as Chloe pulls a gun on him upon seeing Jacob's body.
However, an angry Amenadiel turns up to confront Lucifer and Malcolm flees. Amenadiel blames everything that has transpired on Lucifer for not returning to Hell and the two fight, destroying the penthouse bar, until Maze turns up, tells them they both used her as a pawn to do their own dirty work. She lays out two demonic blades, tells them to kill each other, and then leaves. The two then proceeds stops fighting.
Amenadiel departs, and Lucifer heads downstairs to the bar. Chloe arrives looking for him, shocked at his abused appearance. She listens as he rants about humanity blaming all their sins on him, but as she walks around the side of the bar to find the body of Jacob with a single shot to the head. Discomposed and breathing shakily, Chloe pulls out her gun and points it at Lucifer as more officers appear in Lux. She announces, "Lucifer Morningstar, you're under arrest." The episode then ends as Lucifer puts his hands up.
