Jack Monroe was a private detective in New York City, during the 1940's. He was the first detective that Lucifer Morningstar partnered with to solve a crime.
When he was first introduced to the story, he appeared very briefly as a tall, tired looking man until Trixie objected, "Hang on. Why does the investigator have to be a boy? My mom solves crimes all the time." Thereafter, the role of Jack was played by Chloe Decker.
During the Second World War, Jack served in the United States Army. After his return from Europe, his captain paid a call girl to pick him up, but they then fell in love and married. The marriage was strained however, when the captain told Jack what he had done, and what Shirley used to be, "rousting me out of my shell shock was her final trick." When he took on Lilith's case, he still had not come to terms with his wife's past.
According to Lucifer, he and his wife moved to Des Moines, Iowa after the conclusion of Lilith's case. Trixie was confident they worked out their issues en route.
