Lucifer Wiki

The Battle for Supremacy was a conflict orchestrated by the Archangel Michael to usurp God as the new Sovereign of Heaven to prove to himself and everyone else that he was superior to his twin, Lucifer Morningstar. He succeeded in his schemes to manipulate God into vacating His role of Ruler of the Universe to retire to Goddess's universe, although God was aware of what His son was up to the entire time, and set out to force his siblings to choose him as His successor by assembling the Flaming Sword.

He was opposed by Lucifer, who also wanted the position of God to prove himself worthy of Chloe Decker's love, and it became an election between the two Archangels for the Throne of Heaven. Michael, unfortunately got the backing of his siblings due to their hesitance to believe in Lucifer's leadership skills after his failed rebellion and completed constructing the Flaming Sword, all but assuring his victory. Lucifer, however, was able to convince Michael to fight a one-on-one battle after gaining the support of the Demons. The Fallen Angel was able to defeat Michael and seemingly succeeded their Father. He sent Michael to Hell as punishment, but eventually chose not to become God and passed on the title to Amenadiel.

Prelude[]

Having grown envious of Lucifer Morningstar's status as the Lightbringer, Michael set out to prove he was far superior then his twin by replacing their Father as the new God. Michael worked his ways up the ranks until he finally became God's second-in-command[1] and started manipulating Him into thinking He was losing control over His powers to force Him to retire and pick a successor. He eventually succeeded, and God chose to retire to Goddess' universe for the rest of eternity, leaving the decision of who will replace Him up to His children. Unbeknownst to Michael, God was fully aware of his schemes and just let things play out, knowing that everything would work itself out in the end.[2]

The Conflict[]

Election for the New God[]

The choice to become God came down to Lucifer Morningstar and Michael, with each trying to gain favor amongst their siblings. Amenadiel and Remiel ultimately sided with Lucifer, and the latter acted as a spy for within Michael's ranks, while the rest backed Michael due to Lucifer's rebellion.

Michael wanted to insure his victory, so he started assembling the Flaming Sword.[2] All he needed was Amenadiel's necklace to ignite it. So, he hired Vincent Le Mec and his crew to track it down. It ultimately led to Dan Espinoza's death[3] so Michael could manipulate Lucifer to return to Hell, since he believed Chloe Decker would be condemned to Hell due to her feeling guilty over Dan's death.[4] Lucifer and Maze tracked down the mercenary group and while the latter slaughtered the underlings[3], Lucifer left Vincent alive to live out a Hell on Earth.[5]

Dan's death motivated Lucifer to win so he could avenge his friend's death and ensure Michael doesn't become the new God.[3] The day before the election to decide the new God, Michael eradicated Remiel with the Blade of Death and retrieved the final piece after killing TJ Ross to ignite the Flaming Sword.[4]

Battle at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum[]

The next day, Lucifer and his team battled Michael's, with Zadkiel joining Lucifer's team. Lucifer also recruited an army of Demons led by Mazikeen and Eve to make it a more even match. Lucifer was given Zadkiel's staff as a weapon and he and Michael fought one on one, both on the ground and in the air. Eventually Michael was able to break the staff in two and Lucifer was able to distract him long enough for Chloe to separate the Key from the Flaming Sword.

Their battle ended with Chloe getting killed by Michael using one of the staff's pieces and going to Heaven. Lucifer, unwilling to let Chloe die before her time, ventured to Heaven to save her, even if it meant his death. With Chloe's death being the last straw, Maze and Amenadiel led the Demons into battle against Michael's forces. During the fight, Maze and Eve were able to injure some of the Angels like Saraqael and Gabriel, but ultimately concluded when the Angels were able to defeat all the Demons, minus Maze. Michael's forces then surrounded Amenadiel, Zadkiel, Maze, and Eve.

Ibriel bows before Lucifer

Lucifer Morningstar seemingly becomes the new God.

After Chloe was resurrected, she used the strength the Key gave her to beat Michael into submission. Just as Chloe was about to eradicate Michael with the Blade of Death, Lucifer was mysteriously brought back and halted her. He sparred Michael's life and offered him a second chance by slicing off his wings. After proving himself worthy, everyone present bowed before Lucifer as the new God.[4]

Aftermath[]

Michael's Imprisonment[]

Lucifer Morningstar subsequently imprisoned Michael in Hell, as its janitor, for his crimes.[6]

Passing on Godhood[]

Sovereign of Heaven 2

Amenadiel becomes the new Sovereign of Heaven

The new Sovereign of Heaven put off his duties for the next couple of months before finally realizing that he didn't want to be God and ultimately chose not to take his Father's place.[7] Amenadiel, who believed the war they fought was all for nothing, also realized that Lucifer was right, and instead became the new Sovereign, effectively making Heaven a democracy.[8]

Chloe's Addiction[]

The power of Amenadiel's necklace that Chloe Decker used during the battle soon started to corrupt her, as she didn't want to give it up.[9] When her addiction made her almost kill Lucifer to keep it, she realized she had a problem and had Lucifer take the Blade of Death, the blade that made Amenadiel's necklace giver super-strength, back to Heaven so she couldn't be tempted again.[10]

Saving Dan's Soul[]

After Dan Espinoza was killed in Michael's bid for God, his soul became trapped in Hell. Lucifer assisted his friend in trying to find what out what guilt was left so he could ascend to Heaven. Unfortunately, after almost a thousand years, Dan still couldn't figure out what unfinished business he had left on Earth.[11]

However, after Lucifer's time-traveling daughter, Aurora Morningstar, brought him back up to the mortal plane as a Ghost, Dan finally realized it was his guilt for not being the father his daughter, Trixie Espinoza, deserved. After Trixie defended his parenting to Vincent Le Mec that Dan was possessing in his attempt to apologize for not being a good father, was he finally able to let go of his guilt and be with Charlotte Richards in Heaven.[8][5]
