Plot[]

The episode opens with a ballerina stepping on-stage. She dances as the music builds to a crescendo. A cord sweeps around her from behind, pulling her out of frame.

Meanwhile, an emotional Lucifer confronts Pierce, furious over how Pierce is toying with Chloe’s affections. Surprisingly, it seems Pierce did what he did to not hurt Chloe, but when Lucifer puts him down, he sees the Mark is gone and is stunned. Pierce thinks, “I finally figured out what makes us vulnerable....It's Chloe's love. Think about it; she loves you, you bleed. Now she loves me, so I can die.” Lucifer thinks Cain is being absurd, but will happily kill him if that's what he wants.

Back at the station, Chloe walks into Ella’s lab sporting shades. Ella can think of only two reasons for sunglasses inside, hungover, or been crying. Chloe confirms she and Pierce broke up. Ella makes up her mind, “I’m going to give that studly, big-armed man a serious what for!” Chloe attempts to stop her, but Ella is on a tear and confronts Pierce who tells her he broke up with Chloe to protect her. Privately he realizes now that he's mortal, he could actually grow old with someone. He wants to win Chloe back. The team reconvenes at the crime scene and Lucifer less than thrilled to see Pierce arrive claiming he is going to win Chloe back. He apologizes to Chloe and tells her he loves her, and she is also less than thrilled with his turnabout, “What do you expect me to say to that? Look, Marcus, as much as I appreciate hearing you say those words... that's what they are: they're just words. I can't trust them anymore.”

Dan provides the details of the crime; the prima ballerina, Reina Markova, died by strangulation… the weapon was a ribbon from a pair of ballet slippers. Lucifer takes a few shots at Pierce, and Ella heads back to the lab. Dan tells Lucifer he is leaving to, “I'm gonna join her, 'cause... because this is awkward. Oh, and, uh, personally, I'm with you, buddy. Screw that guy.” Chloe tells Lucifer to back it down, that she knows he wants her to hate Pierce, but what she does or does not do is none of his business. Lucifer then notes a bleeding cut on his hand.

Lucifer bursts into Linda’s office, “The detective still makes me bleed. Which means there's hope....for the detective...Hope that she hasn't fully succumbed to that intolerable knob, Pierce. Even if he has lost his mark.” He thinks since she apparently cares for them both, he must tip the scales in his favor, “So I need to open her eyes. Show her that I'm better than him in every possible way.” Linda thinks this time she should have stopped him.

Pierce meanwhile tells Maze that their plan is off, that he doesn't want to use Chloe any more, but an angry Maze responds, “What about what I want? Because if we don't get Chloe to love you, then we can't lift your curse. And if we can't lift your curse, then I can't kill you and hang it on Lucifer. Framing Lucifer for murder is the only way to blow up his life on Earth.” He insists the plan is off and she refuses to accept that.

Chloe tries to focus on the case as both Pierce and Lucifer shower her with intimate gifts; her favorite sweets, seasonal beverages, a car load of roses. Lucifer then enlists Amenadiel to help him show Chloe that Pierce is “...a two-faced, loathsome biblical liar. I mean, how hard can that be? He is the man behind the whole Sinnerman thing, after all...Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't I tell you? Fun fact: Pierce equals criminal mastermind.” Amenadiel is on board.

The next person of interest the team talks to is Myles Druker, choreographer, who supposedly lost his leg in a car crash, and the creator of America's Next Prima Ballerina, the show that Reina was going to host, until she reneged on her deal when she discovered Myles had faked the leg injury. That gives Myles a motive, she could destroy his reputation. He said it was someone else, however, who threatened to expose him, he did not know who.

Amenadiel, meanwhile, goes to visit Charlotte to enlist her help, and tells her he needs proof of Pierce's double life as the Sinnerman, so they can remove him from the picture and Lucifer has a clear field with Chloe. Charlotte figures if she's helping an angel, she's helping enact God's will, and that can only be good for her. She's in.

Maze goes to see Chloe to try and get her back with Pierce so her own plan can go forward. She tells Chloe she can't trust people, but that Pierce is in pain, and pain she trusts. She gets a lesson in that when Trixie, still hurting from Maze's cruel words, then snubs her and turns her back on the demon.

The investigation then takes the team to, “William Sterling, Chairman of the board of L.A. West Ballet, well-known surgeon, married, two children.” Lucifer is trying to be of actual aid to Chloe and searches the apartment after being let in by a neighbor, unfortunately he draws the wrong conclusion, Sterling isn't a stalker, he and Reina were having an affair, he claimed she was the love of his life.

Charlotte and Amenadiel are simultaneously stalking Pierce. Charlotte pursues him on a motorcycle, but when they come to a halt, the ancient Pierce turns the tables and moves in behind Charlotte, drawing his gun. Charlotte puts her flirt on in hopes of distracting him, but Pierce turns her down. He tells her he's in love with Chloe.

Chloe finds herself again caught between the two men. Pierce asks her out to dinner, and Chloe says yes. Lucifer, however, invites her out well to tell her Pierce doesn’t deserve her. She needs to be with someone better. An emotional Chloe asks who that might be. The moment is interrupted by a call from Ella and Dan. A reflection in the video exposes Miguel, another dancer, as behind the move to get Reina out of the company. As Chloe and Lucifer arrive on the scene, Sterling arrives. He’s angry and armed with a handgun. Miguel had killed Reina, and Lucifer suddenly puts it all together, Miguel hadn't wanted to kill Reina, just get her out of the way. She stood between him and the other ballerina, Amber, whom he loved. “All you needed to do was tell Amber how you felt, but you blew it.... And so did I.”

Back at the penthouse, Linda arrives to find a deeply disturbed devil, “Ever since you left my office, I've been struggling between my role as your therapist and my concern for you as a friend. Friendship won.” He admits he screwed up royally, he should have just told Chloe the truth about his feelings, but he can't because he still believes she has no choice, that it is all part of his Father's manipulation. Linda points out he doesn't know that for sure, and he must act on what he truly wants. Lucifer smiles sadly, “I want her to choose me.” Linda nods, “Then tell her”.

Across town, Pierce arrives at Chloe’s apartment. It seems he was worried when she didn’t show up at dinner. As a stunned Lucifer watches through the window, Pierce pulls a ring from his pocket and drops to one knee. Briefly overwhelmed, Chloe nods. Lucifer looks on, his emotion obvious.
